Te Pae Tawhiti

Ko te pae tawhiti whāia kia tata, ko te pae tata whakamaua kia tina.
Te Pae Tawhiti – A Look to the Future invites senior ākonga to explore aspirations, pathways, and possibilities through increasingly complex and purposeful use of te reo Māori. Designed for NCEA Level 2 learners, this unit centres on future thinking as both a personal and collective responsibility, grounded in the whakataukī “Ko te pae tawhiti whāia kia tata, ko te pae tata whakamaua kia tina.”
Through themes such as goals, identity, wellbeing, and future pathways, ākonga strengthen their ability to communicate plans, express aspirations, and offer advice and solutions using more flexible and nuanced language across a range of contexts.
Learning moves beyond supported communication into more deliberate and strategic kōrero, where students justify ideas, respond thoughtfully to others, and engage with increasingly formal language. As fluency develops, ākonga recognise that their future is shaped by both individual ambition and collective values, drawing on mātauranga Māori to guide decision-making, strengthen resilience, and pursue pathways with purpose and confidence.
