Pāpāhotia te Reo

Ko te reo te take – kia rangona, kia kitea, kia whakamānawatia!

Pāpāhotia te Reo – Māori and Media invites senior ākonga to explore storytelling, representation, and influence through increasingly sophisticated use of te reo Māori. Designed for senior learners, this unit centres on media as a powerful space for shaping identity and amplifying Māori voices, grounded in the whakataukī “Ko te reo te take – kia rangona, kia kitea, kia whakamānawatia!”

Through themes such as media representation, digital platforms, storytelling, and audience, ākonga strengthen their ability to analyse perspectives, express opinions, and communicate ideas across a range of creative and critical contexts.

Learning moves beyond consumption into purposeful and strategic kōrerorero, where students evaluate narratives, adapt language for different audiences, and create their own media with clarity and intent. As fluency develops, ākonga recognise te reo Māori as a language of influence and expression, empowering them to shape authentic stories, challenge representation, and contribute to the future of Māori media.
