Kia Hihiri te Reo – Language in Motion empowers senior ākonga to communicate with growing independence and authenticity in te reo Māori. Designed for NCEA Level 1 learners, this unit shifts beyond supported exchanges into more sustained, purposeful kōrero grounded inte ao o te rangatahi, identity, and lived experience.
Through themes such as hobbies, routines, opinions, feelings, and future intentions, ākonga strengthen their ability to discuss past events, express present states, give instructions, and communicate immediate plans using increasingly spontaneous language patterns.
Learning moves beyond memorised dialogue toward flexible interaction, where students respond, clarify, extend ideas, and uphold tikanga within conversational spaces.
