

Understanding mātauranga Māori for the English curriculum
This wānanga is a unique opportunity to bring English subject specialists together for a 2-day immersive wānanga to understand and authentically implement mātauranga Māori into your curriculum design.
This is in preparation for the for the “Mana ōrite mō te mātauranga Māori” as part of the NCEA upcoming change package for 2022.
Te Reo Māori for Principals & Leaders

If you ever get nervous or anxious about using te reo Māori or wonder about the symbolic meaning behind Māori practices, then this is the course for you!
This course is designed for school leaders who want to become more comfortable and familiar with their use of te reo Māori so that they can continue to lead by example and embrace the uniqueness and beauty of te reo Māori.
Throughout this 5-week course you will learn the fundamentals of te reo Māori pronunciation and learn appropriate speeches and addresses that you can practically use in both formal and informal situations. Regular individual feedback is provided to ensure what you are saying is correct!
Classes are limited to 15 participants to ensure that you receive a personalised programme and tuition will regular and critical feedback from qualified te reo Māori teachers. I

Ngā Whāinga Paetae: Learning Objectives
A range of topics are covered throughout this course with each week featuring a mix of both te reo Māori structures and components of tikanga/ mātauranga Māori (cultural knowledge).

Each lesson is unique and we use a range of digital tools to accentuate delivery and learning.
All participants will have an opportunity to work on their pronunciation and delivery of short speeches with individual feedback provided each week to ensure you can develop your skills and feel confident when using te reo.
This is a practical course that provides an opportunity for school leaders to come together to discuss and critically consider the role of te reo Māori within your schools.

All classes are delivered via Zoom. Experience is not necessary but a basic understanding of computers is advisable

If you miss a class or are unavailable, class recordings will be made available immediately or you are welcome to join one of the other sessions throughout the week.

Due to the small class size, we encourage robust discussion and critical thinking around te reo and tikanga within your school. Learning alongside other Principals and Senior Leaders throughout Aotearoa will enable a network of keen learners and a collaborative approach to this programme.
