Ko te amorangi ki mua, ko te hāpai ō ki muri.

Taku Patu, Taku Mana Māori Motuhake – Māori and Politics invites senior ākonga to explore power, advocacy, and tino rangatiratanga through increasingly sophisticated use of te reo Māori.

Designed for senior learners, this unit centres on political awareness as both knowledge and action, grounded in the enduring strength of Māori voices and collective movements.

Through themes such as political history, activism, leadership, and social change, ākonga strengthen their ability to analyse perspectives, express opinions, and develop arguments using precise and purposeful language across a range of contexts.

Learning moves beyond discussion into more critical and strategic kōrerorero, where students evaluate ideas, challenge viewpoints, and communicate with clarity in formal and persuasive settings. As fluency develops, ākonga recognise te reo Māori as a language of influence and transformation, empowering them to engage with political issues, uphold Māori values, and contribute to the future of Aotearoa with confidence and conviction.
