Ko te reo te mauri o te mana Māori.
Language is explored as something to be lived, shared, and experienced in authentic contexts. Ākonga use te reo Māori to describe, instruct, compare, and express ideas with growing confidence and creativity. Through dynamic projects such as podcasts, digital storytelling, and real-world communication tasks, they strengthen fluency and cultural awareness while discovering that te reo Māori thrives when it is active, expressive, and alive.

Learning Objectives
At NZC Levels 5 and 6, ākonga develop greater social competence in te reo Māori and begin managing less familiar contexts with increasing independence.
In this unit, learners communicate about past activities and events, describe present and past states and opinions, give and follow instructions, and express immediate plans, hopes, and intentions.
These Achievement Objectives align with Te Puāwaitanga – Achieving Social Competence in Te Reo Māori and prepare ākonga for NCEA Level 1 performance expectations.
