Whakakāhore

Negations

This resource teaches learners how to form negative sentence structures across key te reo Māori sentence types.

Ākonga learn the main negation patterns and when to use each.

  • Use negation structures such as kāore, ehara, and kaua correctly

  • Turn positive sentences into accurate negative forms without breaking structure

  • Apply negation across different sentence types for everyday conversation

  • Practise through tasks like “true/false” debates, disagreement challenges, refusal role-plays, and “that didn’t happen” storytelling

By the end of this resource, learners can confidently negate sentences using correct whakakāhore structures.
