Ka Tō Ka Hua

Te Reo Māori for Educators

A practical te reo Māori programme supporting educators to integrate language, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori into everyday classroom teaching.

Ka Tō Ka Hua is a practical, classroom-focused te reo Māori programme designed for educators who want to confidently integrate te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and mātauranga Māori into their everyday teaching practice. The programme supports teachers to move beyond basic knowledge and develop the skills needed to create culturally responsive, inclusive, and language-rich learning environments.

Through a structured and scaffolded learning journey, participants build confidence in pronunciation, sentence construction, and everyday classroom reo, while deepening their understanding of Māori values, identity, and worldview.

The programme integrates key areas such as pepeha, karakia, classroom instructions, pūrākau, maramataka, and tikanga-based practices, ensuring learning is both culturally grounded and immediately applicable.

A strong emphasis is placed on practical implementation, supporting teachers to embed te reo Māori into daily routines, curriculum delivery, and classroom interactions.
